My First Blog!

Hi everyone,

This is my first blog for my website. It may sound a little bit scatter-brained as I am still figuring out how to navigate this platform, but I wanted to put something out there that other people could see. This is going to serve as sort of a journal for others to see as well as a place for other community members to interact and share how exercise has improved and benefitted their lives. As many of you who are engaging on here have probably experienced, exercise has probably improved your life in some way, shape or form, whether it be running, sports, lifting weights, or skiing, to name a few. So here, I'll start off by talking about the importance of exercise in my own daily life. To start off, I first learned about exercise from my parents who have lived active lifestyles, from my father who runs and swims every single day for his health, to my mother who trains and ride horses on a regular basis and takes care of the animals. These are a few of the many forms of exercise that have benefitted me, but probably one of the first benefits of exercise that has helped me was running. What made me first fall in love with running was the sheer effort of doing something physical in the world and feeling as though I have worked my body hard. Not long after, I soon found the joy of participating in sports, both in and outside of school, another form of work ethic that I learned about not too long after. Over the years, there have been several ups and down in my health life. However, exercise has helped me when I have felt at my best, such as moments of high athletic performance, and also when I have felt at my worst, from break-ups to Lyme disease, other health complications, and just being able to get through life's challenges. As with everything else in life, I am a firm believer that in order to maintain long-term health, exercise should be done in whatever form is sustainable in the long term. I have done pretty challenging forms of exercise before, such as training for a decathlon during a few of my college years. However, some of these feats are not always sustainable in the long term, so this must also be taken into account.

Another one of my philosophies is that exercise should be done in a way that is suitable for that particular person. Training for a marathon, for example, may not be suitable for every single person due to nagging injuries, but other activities, such as weightlifting or swimming, may be suitable for that person. A student or someone who holds the traditional "9-5" job, for instance, may not have the luxury of time that a serious athlete might have. However, it is still important that they find ways to exercise. So, there needs to be a lifestyle change that will make their lives easier.

I will continue to update personal discoveries and findings on here, and whenever I find resources, will include references to scientific literature regarding the health benefits of exercise for further reading, but for the time being, this site will be primarily opinionated. So, just as everyone is, I am biased in my own views and personal experiences, so please take that into account while reading these blog posts to start off with. And as always, please feel free to contribute and add anything that you wish as well as add talks about anything that may or may not be useful to the public here. All that I ask is that you keep everything that is on here respectful and polite, because that is the way C Lyman Fitness rolls! Peace out!
